To lead and manage the end-to-end new product development process from concept through to launch, ensuring products are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality, technical, and commercial standards. The role will work closely with commercial, technical, production, procurement, and customer teams to identify opportunities for innovation, improve existing products, and support business growth through successful product launches.
Key accountabilities/duties:
- Lead the development and launch of new products in line with customer requirements and business strategy.
- Manage the full NPD process including concept development, feasibility, trials, validation, launch, and post-launch review.
- Work collaboratively with customers, sales, technical, operations, and procurement teams to deliver commercially viable products.
- Coordinate factory trials and first production runs, ensuring accurate documentation and effective communication.
- Develop product specifications, recipes, process instructions, and supporting technical documentation.
- Ensure all products comply with food safety, legal, quality, and customer standards.
- Monitor food and market trends to identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
- Manage project timelines and critical paths to ensure launches are delivered on schedule.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding ingredients, packaging, and new materials.
- Support cost management initiatives through recipe optimisation and ingredient substitution where appropriate.
- Attend customer meetings and presentations as required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
- Maintain accurate records and reports relating to development activities.
- Mentor and support junior development team members where applicable.
