Full time (37 hours per week, Monday to Friday). An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Development Management Team for a Technical Planning Officer position to ensure we can build a team that will help shape our future. East Hampshire is a beautiful district, benefiting from the South Downs National Park together with historic market towns, attractive villages and countryside. However, we face the same challenges many do in terms of where to locate new development and how to ensure there is suitable housing for everyone who needs it. Change is ongoing; we don’t want to stop change, we just want to make sure change is as positive as possible and fair.
The opportunity would suit either a recent graduate looking to embark on their Planning career or a candidate with some experience of working within a town planning environment. The role will provide technical and administrative support for the Development Management Team as well as the processing and determination of straightforward planning applications and enquiries. The right candidate will have excellent organisational and communication skills, together with a positive outlook.
The position will comprise a hybrid style of working, as a mix of both home and office-based working. Flexible working arrangements to suit the work/life balance of the successful applicant will be considered. The Council has recently moved to new modern offices closer to Petersfield town centre and the railway station.
In return for your valued contribution, we can offer you a competitive benefits package which includes hybrid and flexible working options, training and development opportunities, generous annual leave and flexi time, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and more.
Closing date for receipt of applications is 24th May 2026 and interviews are likely to be held w/c 8th June 2026. East Hampshire District Council is committed to building a diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences – we are proud of being a Disability Confident Committed employer and appoint on merit. The Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Veterans is a commitment that the Council has made to support the Armed Forces Community Covenant.
