About The Role
Join our dedicated Landscape and Ecology team responsible for maintaining the 123km stretch of the M40 motorway. As a Grounds Maintenance (L&E) Operative, you will carry out essential environmental and landscaping tasks to ensure the safety, sustainability, and visual quality of the motorway corridor. This role includes night shifts and may involve additional duties for which you are suitably trained.
Working Hours & Compensation
- Average 42‑hour working week
- Optional overtime available
- Day and night shifts depending on work
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in daily briefings and scheduled training to ensure safe and sustainable work practices
- Promote a positive culture around health, safety, and environmental awareness
- Report hazards and safety concerns to the Team Leader or Foreman
- Perform a variety of landscaping and ecological tasks, including:
- Grass cutting and strimming
- Tree felling and arborist duties
- Hedgerow and ditch clearance
- Pond management
- Application of pesticides (as trained)
Training & Development
You will be required to complete and pass the Lantra hierarchy of courses to qualify for work on high‑speed roads and to perform landscaping and ecology tasks to a high standard. Training will be provided as needed.
Desired Qualifications & Experience
- Lantra Certification in Chainsaw Maintenance and Felling (or willingness to obtain)
- Full UK Driving Licence (training support available)
- Experience in one or more of the following:
- Landscaping
- Forestry
- Gardening
- Arboriculture
