This role integrates leadership of HVDC converter technologies and cable systems (land and marine) to support the delivery of our clients expanding offshore and onshore transmission portfolio. The role manages engineering interfaces across joint venture projects and oversees the scoping, development, technical assurance/compliance, and engineering strategy for new HVDC assets. It creates value by identifying and managing engineering risks and opportunities across the end-to-end HVDC system, embedding world-class engineering practices, and shaping long-term asset management strategy with SMEs, Asset Operations, JV partners, OEMs and suppliers.

As a Senior HVDC Project Manager (10+ years' experience), you will design, plan and deliver project works from feasibility through to completion, ensuring compliance with standards, systems and licence obligations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as Project Engineering for HVDC system scope covering converter technology and cable systems.
  • Drive efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of HVDC solutions (physical/digital assets, installation and maintenance methods).
  • Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders to realise strategic outcomes.
  • Support shaping relationships with OEMs, suppliers, JV partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop the design specifications of the project with JV partners, and support the procurement, and evaluation of HVDC equipment, working with vendors and technology providers.
  • Identify and manage engineering risks, ensuring project designs adhere to safety, reliability, and environmental requirements.
  • Lead the review and approval of technical designs, ensuring compliance with Grid technical policies and procedures.
  • Provide engineering expertise to support cost estimation, planning, and feasibility studies for future infrastructure projects.
Knowledge & Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field (Chartered Engineer is a bonus).
  • Ability to distil complex technical information into simple concepts for all audiences.
  • Proven experience in project engineering within a Transmission System Operator (TSO), utility, or Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) environment.
  • Understanding of HVDC assets (e.g., converter stations, system design, control systems, and DC cable systems).
  • Experience developing technical specifications for converters and cables.
  • Experience with the preparation of engineering documentation supporting planning consenting process is desirable.
  • Experience working with Grid Code requirements, system studies, and network integration.
  • Good knowledge of relevant engineering standards.

This is a hybrid role, involving a blend of home working, time spent at Client and Omnia Projects offices, and regular site visits across the East region.
