Key Responsibilities
- Attendance of briefings and training to enable all duties to be carried out in a safe and sustainable manner.
- Active participation in encouraging a positive attitude towards health, safety and the environment, reporting to the Supervisor or Foreman any hazards on site and demonstrating care for own health & safety plus that of fellow workers.
- Carry out safety / debris patrols, identify and make safe defects on the carriageway.
- Respond to incidents within timeframes as per our contractual obligations, making recommendations to Network Control Centre and third parties e.g. Police and NHTOs where appropriate.
- Carry out tasks to clear incidents from the Highway as instructed by Network Control Centre ISU Lead Operative or Incident Support Supervisor.
- Undertake Highway Maintenance activities including but not limited to litter picking, vegetation management and emergency repair of potholes and boundary fence.
- Undertake winter maintenance duties including salt spreading as directed by the Supervisor.
- Act in a courteous manner to members of the public and other third parties that may be involved in incidents.
- Inspect drainage infrastructure and remove debris as required.
- Maintain visibility of marker posts and other signage on a regular basis in line with planned activities.
- Report any defects found on the network through to the Network Control Centre at the earliest opportunity.
- Maintain regular communication with the Network Control Centre and Incident Support Supervisor when attending incidents on the network.
- Installation and removal of Emergency Traffic Management as requested.
- Maintenance of existing Emergency Traffic Management closures.
- Installing and/or removing signed diversion routes.
- Undertake depot duties as required which will include sweeping, cleaning signs and cones, filling sandbags, maintaining tools and equipment.
- Ensure the readiness of ISU vehicle prior to commencing network activity.
- Complete appropriate paperwork relative to task and responsibilities.
- Active participation in ensuring that the operations carried out comply with Company policies and procedures.
- To fully engage with the promotion and adoption of any current and future health, safety and wellbeing initiatives rolled out by Egis Road operation M40 Ltd and/or Egis UK.
Qualifications
- Green CSCS FISS (or above) qualification card (or working towards).
- HGV category C licence (or working towards).
- City and Guilds Winter maintenance qualification (or working towards).
- Temporary Traffic Management Basic Course (TTMBC) qualification (or working towards).
- Ability to identify areas for improvement and implement change through a combination of clear and effective communication and a drive to succeed.
- Considerable and demonstrable experience with regard to safety and quality on a high-speed strategic road network.
- Capability in making informed decisions under pressure ensuring timely resolution of issues.

- Shift pattern: 2 day shifts, 2 night shifts in a 4 on 4 off shift pattern.
- Driving Licence: Essential.
