As a result of our continued success and growth in the UK, we’re looking for a full-time Technical Director to join our existing Nuclear team in the UK, based in Bristol, cultivating strong working relationships in a multi-cultural environment to deliver outstanding results for our clients. About the Role

As the Engineering Director for the Nuclear UK branch, you will provide technical expertise and support for ongoing EPR design projects, in particular Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C. You will represent Egis at industry events such as technical conferences and seminars in the UK and internationally, and coordinate with the Technical Directorate in France to ensure overall consistency in sharing experiences, tools, skills, and technical expertise.

Strategic Leadership:

As the Engineering Director, you will be at the forefront of steering strategic initiatives aimed at elevating EGIS's prominence in the international nuclear sector, including reactors, SMR/AMR, fusion, nuclear fuel and radioactive waste management and defence. Your role involves devising long-term plans, identifying growth prospects, and aligning technical capabilities with our overarching organisational objectives.

Technical Oversight and Coordination:

You will provide technical authority and coordination across EGIS’ international engineering competence centres covering:

  • Reactor systems and components
  • Mechanical, electrical and HVAC
  • Instrumentation & Control (I&C)
  • Nuclear safety, licensing and safety cases
  • Fuel handling, operations, maintenance and decommissioning interfaces

Ensure technical consistency, harmonised methodologies, and efficient use of global resources across projects.

Team Management and Development:

Lead project teams of technical professionals dispersed globally, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence. Your leadership will involve recruiting top talent, providing mentorship, and facilitating professional development opportunities to enhance team capabilities and performance.

Stakeholder Engagement:

Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, industry partners, and government agencies. Utilise effective communication, negotiation, and collaboration to achieve shared objectives and uphold EGIS's reputation as a nuclear energy leader.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

Ensure adherence to stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements across all nuclear reactor power projects. Implement robust quality management systems, conduct audits, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and safety.

Nuclear Safety Assurance:

Prioritise nuclear safety throughout all project stages, implementing rigorous safety protocols, adhering to industry best practices, and complying with regulatory requirements to mitigate risks associated with nuclear power generation.

Promotion of Nuclear Safety Culture:

Actively promote a strong nuclear safety culture within EGIS and among our partners and stakeholders. Foster a mindset where safety is ingrained in every aspect of our operations, empowering employees to identify and address safety concerns, and encouraging open communication and transparency regarding safety issues.

Compliance with International Standards:

Ensure our projects adhere to the highest international standards for nuclear safety, including those set forth by organisations such as the IAEA and WANO, as well as any national regulatory requirements. Conduct thorough assessments to verify compliance with safety regulations and guidelines.

Bid Management and Delivery Oversight:

Participate in all bidding activities and assume responsibility for technical compliance verification and support throughout the delivery process. Ensure that all bids meet technical specifications and regulatory requirements, maximising the probability of successful project acquisition and execution.

Ensuring Timely Project Delivery:

As a crucial aspect of your role, ensure that all projects are delivered on time, maintaining efficiency and effectiveness throughout the project lifecycle.

Through your role as Engineering Director, you will be dedicated to upholding the highest standards of technical excellence, safety, and sustainability in the global nuclear energy sector. What do we need from you?

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering or related field.

Over 15 years of extensive experience in nuclear engineering, project management, and technical support for Bidding and Tender document preparation.

In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards in the nuclear industry.

Strong leadership skills, capable of leading teams effectively in both leading and non-leading capacities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for seamless collaboration.

Proficiency in various nuclear technologies, including LWR, PHWR, etc.

Willingness to travel internationally for project-related activities.

Proficiency in English; knowledge of French and other languages is an asset.

Note: Given the nature of the work, role holders may be required to undergo Basic Security Clearance (BPSS).
