About the Role
As a BIM/CAD Technician you will be an integral member of the team as it grows. You will be required to support the engineering teams in current commissions which may be 2D, 3D incorporating BIM Level 2. We are looking for someone who will take this challenge head on, be part of a dynamic team with big ambitions. We will be looking to provide capabilities across light, heavy and metro urban infrastructure and work alongside the signalling and track teams. The BIM/CAD Technician plays a critical role within the Engineering Directorate, focusing on the production and coordination of high‑quality BIM models and ensuring their alignment with project standards and the BIM Execution Plan (BEP).
Responsibilities
- Assist in the delivery of projects from technical design to construction stage, mainly Urban design /landscape architecture.
- A good understanding of architectural/ urban design presentation/render RIBA designs.
- Utilise Revit, SketchUp & AutoCAD for detailed model creation and documentation, ensuring models are fully coordinated and clash‑free.
- Lead the production of high‑quality detailed construction drawings for specific elements of urban realm and public space projects, ensuring integration with overall project models.
- Support and liaise with the BIM Coordinator, BIM Manager and wider project team in the implementation of deliverables adhering to specified project standards and to facilitate issue resolution.
- Assist in the maintenance of the project's CDE, ensuring accurate and timely information flow and adherence to data management standards.
- Participate in quality assurance checks of drawings to ensure they meet the project's accuracy, detail, and information requirements.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with the BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and project standards, contributing to regular reports on BIM deliverable status.
- Work closely with other disciplines to ensure drawings/models are integrated and coordinated efficiently, attending regular coordination meetings as necessary.
- Provide technical support and guidance to project team members on drawing and BIM‑related issues, promoting best practices in model creation and management.
What do we need from you
- Urban Realm BIM/CAD Technician with at least 5 years’ experience in major infrastructure/transportation projects.
- Experience of working in an engineering production environment.
- An urban design or public realm background.
- Experience of delivering projects to UK BIM Standards including ISO 19650.
- Proficient in using Autodesk (specifically Revit) software and in additional Bentley ProjectWise for CDE usage.
- Experience in working within multidisciplinary teams, contributing to the cohesive development of integrated project deliverables.
- Good knowledge of UK design standards, such as Network Rail, HS2 and TfL.
- Experience working with BEPs, Task Information Delivery Plans (TIDP), Master Information Delivery Plans (MIDP) and Model Production Delivery Tables (MPDT).
- Ability to adapt to new BIM technologies and workflows, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
