What will you be doing? Reporting to the O&M Business Improvement Director, the Senior Outage Planner will oversee the planner(s), whilst working alongside the site teams to support the development, optimisation, monitoring, and tracking of outage work scopes across our portfolio of 12 power plants. The role involves overseeing the coordination of outage plans, integrating maintenance and operational requirements, and ensuring work scopes are clearly defined and scheduled, and progress is accurately tracked to support safe, efficient, and timely outage delivery.
Summary of key responsibilities
- Provide guidance and support to the Planner(s) to ensure strong working relationships and site satisfaction through transparent communication and delivery performance, ensuring goals are set, monitored, tracked and reported accordingly.
- Work closely with and provide regular updates and strategic input to the O&M Business Improvement Director and senior leadership on outage performance, risks, opportunities, and emerging trends.
- Develop and implement outage plans alongside site teams in line with company strategy, monitor their progress and report variances and recommend corrective actions as required, prioritising and allocating resources where it is needed the most.
- Oversee both the short-term and long-term performance, suitability and effectiveness of the sites outage plans.
- Identify critical path activities and optimise schedules using planning software (MS Project).
- Monitor outage progress and provide schedule updates, forecasts, and variance analysis and support real-time outage execution, making schedule adjustments as needed for both scheduled and unscheduled outages/shutdowns.
- Track outage performance metrics such as schedule adherence, cost, safety, and quality, capturing lessons learned and support continuous improvement for future outages.
- Interface with procurement and inventory teams to resolve material constraints.
- Support post-outage reporting, closeout documentation, and cost reconciliation.
- Lead, mentor, and develop planners, fostering a high-performance culture with a focus on accountability and collaboration.
Qualifications & Knowledge to succeed
- Engineering degree / HND / HNC or equivalent qualifications & experience with experience of engineering planning in a power generation/engineering/manufacturing environment.
- Detailed experience and understanding of plant outages.
- Experience of maintenance planning and management activities in a large industrial facility.
- Familiar with Microsoft Project is essential.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.

Whilst working as a Senior Outage Planner at BWSC we offer a starting salary of £50,000 and a great total reward package including:

This role is a full-time role contracted for 40 hours per week, working Monday to Friday. The role will be home-based with the requirement to travel to sites as required. Some ad-hoc national travel may also be required.
