What will you be doing? Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader/Maintenance Manager you will be responsible for the mechanical maintenance, breakdown activities and coordination of 3rd party suppliers. The Mechanical Technician’s role is to ensure the plant is maintained with respect to safety, environmental, OEM and industry recognised best practice guidelines, to deliver the highest levels of availability, reliability and efficiency, whilst maintaining engineering integrity at all times.
Summary of key responsibilities:
- Maintain the plant against OEM guidance, applicable legislation and industry best practice in line with the CMMS, to ensure the availability of the plant is maximised.
- Undertake and support the daily planned maintenance activities in line with the agreed CMMS plan, liaising with HSEQ and operations colleagues and submitting the required CMMS/Safety System documents and RAMS within the locally agreed timeframes.
- Undertake practical application and timely diagnosis, fault finding and repair of the plant, in liaison with operations team, with or without 3rd party contract support.
- Undertake proactive measures to improve plant reliability, efficiency and performance, whilst maintaining overall plant integrity in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
- Provide supervisory support to 3rd party service providers whilst on site, and associated acceptance of RAMS.
- Ensure the sites CMMS is maintained and proactively used to record all historical works undertaken.
- Own or provide contract ownership to a number of 3rd party contract providers to assist in the delivery of all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
- Undertake specific engineering integrity assessments not limited to floor gratings, handrails and fixed ladders.
- Provide engineering technical support as required to the fuel handling and operations team for plant technical issue resolution.
- Ensure the mechanical spares including strategic spares are controlled, replenished in line with agreed levels and secured at all times.
- Support outage works, including general planning, scheduling, in-house delivery and 3rd party service provider co-ordination.
- Adhere to health, safety, quality and environmental management policies and assist in the creation/development of all site operations procedures, so they remain accurate, suitable and sufficient.
Qualifications & Knowledge to succeed:
- ONC / C&G / NVQ level 3 in a mechanical engineering discipline is essential, along with a high level of practical thermal/process plant maintenance experience. (Qualifications below this may be acceptable if accompanied by suitable experience).
- A good understanding of all HSE aspects is a fundamental requirement, with IOSH Managing Safely a preferred requirement.
- Demonstrable engineering experience within a maintenance role.
- Experience of permit and safety systems and WSE(LOLER/PSSR).
- General knowledge and experience of steam turbines, combustion systems, steam cycle chemistry, WTP, generators and flue gas emission abatement.
- Working knowledge of preventative maintenance/defect repair of valves, pumps, fans, mechanical drives and conveyors.
- An understanding and ability to read P&ID and isometric diagrams.
- Computer literate with Microsoft Office suite and ideally previous CMMS experience.

This role is a full-time role contracted for 40 hours per week, initially working Monday to Friday day shifts and then moving to Monday to Friday alternating between early (6am – 2:30pm) and lates (2pm – 10:30pm). Some occasional and ad-hoc national travel may be required.
