Education Officer in Middlesbrough

Working as part of the Education Team, the role will deliver on Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation’s Premier League Inspires programme which is funded by the Premier League Foundation. The delivery will focus on high-quality, engaging and supportive one-to-one mentoring as well as small cohort interventions based on identified themes such as Attendance, Attainment and Behaviour. The role will also support the delivery of the Premier League Kicks Programme. Role Specific Responsibilities Include:

• Plan, prepare and deliver a range of one to one and group targeted interventions to children and young people who are referred to our Premier League Inspires programme. These sessions predominantly take place within school settings.
• Build positive, trusted relationships with young people through implementing early and responsive intervention based on individual needs, following their interests and personal strengths.
• Be a positive role model for children and young people and provide non-judgemental support while respecting diversity and lifestyle choices.
• Work with other multi-agency organisations to provide wrap-around support for the young person and their family.
• Create and sustain partnerships with local schools and organisations to provide suitable exit strategies for participants – encourage young people to become involved in community-based activities.
• Support and encourage children and young people to access Premier League Kicks and wider Foundation programmes.
• Support with the delivery of other programmes/sessions across Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation which includes some evening and weekend work. Examples include Premier League Kicks, Match Day and Holiday Camps.
• Undertake administrative tasks and communicate with different stakeholders.
• Support with the data collection with guidance from your Line Manager and the Data and Impact Coordinator.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, including adapting resources and engagements to ensure equal opportunities for all.
• Adhere to health and safety requirements with support from your Line Manager and the Health and Safety Manager.
• Be committed to safeguarding and working with Safeguarding Ambassadors and the Designated Safeguarding Officer.

About The Candidate

Essential

• Experience and/or understanding of basic youth work practices, including youth work and one-to-one mentoring as well as group activities.
• Experience of working with children and young people in educational/youth work settings.
• A passion for improving opportunities for young people from high-need areas and/or under-represented groups.
• Knowledge and awareness of transition periods in young people’s lives.
• Experience supporting young people who are not in education, employment or training.
• Experience of supporting and developing links with parents/carers/families and other agencies.
• Experience in managing caseloads.
• Ability to communicate with young people, schools and partner agencies.

Qualifications

• A good standard of general education including high level literacy and numeracy skills.
• Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate or willingness to work towards.
• Level 2 Youth Work Qualification or willingness to work towards.

Desirable

• Level 2 Effective Mentoring or willingness to work towards.
• Emergency First Aid Certificate or willing to work towards.
• FA Safeguarding Children Course or willingness to work towards.
• Level 1 or above Sports Coaching Qualification from a recognised National Governing Body (e.g. FA Introduction to Football/UEFA C Licence) or willingness to work towards.
• Creating Safe Spaces Training.
• Level 3 Youth Work.
• Trauma-Informed Practice Training or willingness to work towards.

Specific Skills and Knowledge

• Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities linked to youth work practice.
• Knowledge of the issues facing young people from high-need communities.
• An ability to work independently being a self-starter and proactive, working and thinking creatively and taking initiative towards inspirational, motivating delivery.
• Understanding how health, social, economic and environmental factors can impact young people and their communities.

Additional Requirements

• A flexible approach to working hours to include evening and weekend work and ability to work/visit a variety of locations other than immediate workplace on a regular basis.
• A valid driving licence, with access to own transport including business insurance and willingness to travel within the Tees Valley.
• Be eligible to work in the UK.
• A satisfactory enhanced DBS check will need to be completed.
