About The Role

Job Purpose: To play a key role in the production of Academy-developed goalkeepers ready for the First Team. To play a lead role in the training and development of Academy goalkeepers across the phases in line with the Club's player development methodology.

Role Accountabilities & Key Duties

  • Player Development
  • To design age-appropriate goalkeeping curriculums in line with the Club's goalkeeping methodology.
  • To develop detailed individual profiles and learning plans for goalkeepers in the Professional Development Phase (U18 & Development Squad).
  • To provide goalkeepers in the Professional Development Phase with bespoke training sessions to meet their individual needs.
  • To regularly review training/match footage with Professional Development Phase goalkeepers and provide constructive analysis.
  • To provide goalkeeping training on Schoolboy evenings & weekend matchdays as directed by the Head of Goalkeeping.
  • To ensure that all relevant data/reports are entered onto the PMA & Club systems.
  • Coach Education
    • To provide line‑management to Academy Goalkeeping Staff.
    • To conduct performance appraisals for direct reports.
    • To promote a culture of innovation across the Goalkeeping Department, ensuring that regular research is conducted into new ways of working.
    • To attend and, as required, deliver Academy in‑service events.
    • To undertake observations that support the individual Development Actions Plans (DAPs) of Academy Goalkeeping Staff.
    • To undertake personal CPD as appropriate to meet the demands of the role.
  • Pathway Management
    • To closely monitor Academy goalkeepers on loan and undertake club visits/match observations as required.
    • Participate in the retain/release procedures for Academy goalkeepers across the phases.
    • To play a key role in the production of Academy-developed players ready for the First Team.
    • To provide insightful contributions towards the Club's succession planning meetings.
  • Safeguarding
    • To have or develop an impeccable knowledge of safeguarding best practice to include a deep understanding of safeguarding children's regulations, including legislation & governing body rules.
    • To ensure that any safeguarding or welfare concerns are reported efficiently.
    • To comply with all company policies/procedures and adhere to all company regulations regarding policies, procedures, health, safety, and security.
    • All other duties that may arise from time to time and fall within the scope of this position.

    • UEFA A Goalkeeping Licence (desirable)
    • UEFA B Goalkeeping Licence
    • UEFA B Licence
    • FA Youth Award
    • FA Advanced Youth Module (desirable)
    • FA Safeguarding Certificate
    • EFAiF Qualification

    Skills, Knowledge & Experience

    • Experience of coaching elite players in the PDP
    • Must hold a valid full UK driver's licence.
    • IT skills to include a very high level of competence using Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint & PMA
    • Good overall level of numeracy and literacy.
    • Ability to liaise empathetically and effectively communicate with young players, parents, scouts, coaches and Club senior managers.
