Overall Objective:

The Academy Player Care & Safeguarding Assistant will support the wellbeing, welfare and personal development of Academy players throughout their journey at Crewe Alexandra Football Club. Working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) and Player Care Manager, the postholder will help deliver the Academy's Player Care programme while supporting the Club's safeguarding responsibilities to ensure a safe, inclusive and positive environment for all players.

The role requires flexibility to work regular evenings, weekends and Academy events in line with the Academy programme.

About The Candidate

Main Duties:

1. Player Care

1.1 Support the planning, delivery and continuous development of the Academy's Player Care Programme, ensuring compliance with the EPPP and Academy Performance Plan.

1.2 Build positive, trusted relationships with Academy players and their families, providing day-to-day pastoral support throughout their Academy journey.

1.3 Support players' emotional wellbeing by providing guidance, 1:1 support, signposting and access to appropriate internal and external support services where required.

1.4 Design, coordinate and deliver age-appropriate Player Care workshops and educational programmes for Academy players from U9–U18, supporting their personal development, wellbeing, life skills and understanding of key safeguarding and welfare topics.

1.5 Support player inductions, transitions, reviews and exit processes, ensuring every player receives appropriate guidance and support throughout key stages of their development.

1.6 Promote player voice by supporting surveys, forums and feedback opportunities, ensuring players and parents can actively contribute to the Academy environment.

1.7 Work collaboratively with coaches and the multidisciplinary team to identify and respond to individual player welfare needs.

1.8 Develop positive relationships with parents and carers, providing advice, guidance and support where appropriate.

1.9 Maintain confidential, accurate and timely Player Care records in accordance with Club policies and GDPR.

1.10 Maintain a visible and approachable presence throughout the Academy by regularly attending evening training sessions, weekend fixtures, Academy events and developing strong relationships with players, parents and staff.

2. Safeguarding

2.1 Support the Designated Safeguarding Officer in maintaining a proactive safeguarding culture across the Academy.

2.2 Assist in managing safeguarding concerns, ensuring all information is accurately recorded and reported in accordance with Club procedures.

2.3 Support the administration of safer recruitment processes, including DBS applications, references, safeguarding training records and the Single Central Record.

2.4 Assist with safeguarding audits, compliance monitoring and quality assurance to ensure EFL, Premier League and FA standards are consistently achieved.

2.5 Deliver and support safeguarding inductions and awareness sessions for staff, players, parents and volunteers.

2.6 Develop positive working relationships with external safeguarding partners including Local Authorities, Police, Children's Social Care, the FA, EFL and other relevant agencies.

2.7 Attend safeguarding meetings, training and continuing professional development to maintain current knowledge and best practice.

3. Compliance

3.1. Ensure the compliance of one’s self and others, by conducting themselves in a manner that adheres to, complies with and supports the Club’s policies and procedures, the EFL and Premier League Standards and the FA Guidelines. Representing the Club positively at all times.

3.2. To ensure that all concerns are acted upon in a timely manner and dealt with appropriately, seeking advice and guidance, where required, through internal colleagues and external agencies.

3.3. Ensure that the use of any company vehicles and equipment is done so in accordance with the Club’s and Legal Requirements.

3.4. All personal data collected is stored, disposed of and dealt with confidentially, in accordance with General Data Practice Regulation (GDPR)

3.5. Adhere to any other reasonable requests that meet the needs of the Club.
