Barnsley Football Club are seeking a passionate and driven Lead Academy Strength & Conditioning Coach to play a key role in the development of our next generation of elite players. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking Performance, Medicine & Performance Analysis team, working closely with academy players and first-team staff to deliver a high-performance environment that prepares athletes for professional football.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and support individualised strength & conditioning programmes to enhance performance across academy squads.
- Contribute to on- and off-pitch training sessions, focusing on speed, strength, agility, power and endurance.
- Support fitness testing, performance monitoring, and data analysis, using industry-leading technologies.
- Play an active role in player rehabilitation, leading gym-based recovery programmes for injured players.
- Ensure alignment between academy and first-team physical performance practices to support player progression.
- Work collaboratively across departments, contributing to a holistic, multidisciplinary approach.
About You
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and committed practitioner who is:
- Experienced in delivering physical performance programmes within elite sport.
- Knowledgeable in athletic development, including movement, strength, speed, and conditioning.
- Confident in using performance analysis tools and technologies (e.g. GPS and force platforms).
- A strong communicator who thrives in a team-based environment.
- Highly organised, proactive, and adaptable in a fast-paced setting.
About The Candidate
Essential
- Undergraduate degree in Strength and Conditioning, Sports Science, Physical Education, or related subject.
- Experience working in a physical performance role within elite sport.
- Experience using performance technologies, including GPS systems (e.g Statsports) and force diagnostic equipment (e.g. VALD products).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Able to build trust and rapport with players and staff.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Full UK driving license.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in Strength and Conditioning, Sport Science, Physical Education or related discipline.
- Recognised accreditation (UKSCA, NSCA, EXOS, ASCA, CASES) or working towards.
- Previous experience working in a sporting environment.
