We are seeking an experienced Civil Works Manager to oversee major earthworks, deep excavations, cuttings, and contaminated/remediation ground packages on a large scale infrastructure project. The successful candidate will take responsibility for planning, coordinating, and delivering complex civil engineering works safely, on programme, and to the highest technical standards. This role requires excellent knowledge of bulk earthworks, ground engineering, contaminated land management, remediation strategy implementation, and temporary works coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of major excavation, cutting, and ground remediation packages from pre-construction through to handover.
- Manage subcontractors delivering bulk earthworks, enabling works, soil stabilisation, contamination removal/treatment, and reinstatement.
- Interpret engineering drawings, geotechnical reports, and environmental assessments to plan works effectively.
- Oversee temporary works associated with excavations, shoring, dewatering, haul roads, and earth retention.
- Ensure all works comply with CDM Regulations, project H&S requirements, and environmental legislation.
- Implement environmental controls relating to contamination handling, soil classification, disposal routes, and remediation processes.
- Develop detailed package programmes and coordinate interfaces with other disciplines.
- Manage budgets, variations, subcontractor claims, and progress reporting.
- Liaise with clients, designers, environmental consultants, project managers, and regulators.
Required Experience
- Proven track record managing major earthworks, deep excavations, soil cuttings, contamination, and ground remediation packages on large civil engineering projects.
- Experience on infrastructure projects such as highways, rail, energy, industrial, or large construction developments.
- Strong understanding of bulk earthworks methodologies and mass haul planning, contaminated ground strategies, ground engineering, geotechnical risks, and environmental compliance.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Degree/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline (preferred).
- CSCS and SMSTS required; Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) desirable.
- Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent planning, contractual awareness, and reporting capability.
