The Senior Learning Designer (SLD) for core Science curriculum is responsible for designing and developing high quality learning experiences that combine rigorous learning science, human-centred design principles and emerging technologies – including Artificial Intelligence (AI). In this role, you will lead the end-to-end learning design process: including contextual needs analysis, design, development and evaluation, across grade levels and courses in accordance with required standards.
The SLD partners with members of the product team and other stakeholders to design holistic, scalable learning solutions that meet both educational and organizational goals. A key focus of this role is exploring and applying AI-enabled tools and workflows to enhance curriculum quality, personalization, efficiency, and innovation in science education.
The Role:
The Senior Learning Designer (SLD) will have a passion for working with innovative technologies and their application in science education, with particular interest in how AI can support curriculum design, assessment, and effective personalization. You will have a strong background working with digital learning materials across diverse educational contexts (public/private, international) in addition to prior experience leading cross-functional curriculum projects.
To be successful in your role, you will be required to work flexibly across functions and cultures, communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and leverage modern collaboration and productivity tools including AI-assisted design and content development platforms. You will be comfortable integrating AI tools into editorial and production workflows to deliver high-quality outcomes to deadline.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and sequencing of a coherent Science curriculum across grades/courses, ensuring alignment with relevant standards (e.g., NGSS or other national standards).
- Create and refine unit plans, performance tasks, and formative/summative assessments.
- Develop modular, adaptable units that scale from introduction to mastery, with clear scope and sequence, learning objectives, and rationale.
- Apply evidence-based instructional strategies (active learning, inquiry-based approaches, phenomenon-driven learning, etc.) to optimize student understanding.
- Design instructional materials for multiple modalities (teacher-led lessons, lab activities, independent study, simulations) and for diverse learners.
- Integrate AI-enabled approaches where appropriate, such as adaptive pathways, intelligent feedback, automated formative checks, or data-informed personalization.
- Create performance-based tasks and rubrics that align to standards and assess conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and scientific reasoning.
- Work independently and collaboratively to achieve project goals and meet challenging deadlines.
Knowledge and Skill requirements:
- Master’s degree in science education, instructional design, curriculum and assessment or a related field.
- Experience designing and/or implementing science curricula.
- Demonstrated familiarity working with science standards and disciplinary frameworks.
- Strong foundation in instructional design models and learning science principles.
- Working knowledge of AI concepts as applied to education (e.g. adaptive learning, generative AI, learning analytics), with the ability to critically evaluate their pedagogical value.
- A curious mindset and desire to innovate responsibly, including thoughtful adoption of emerging technologies.
