We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Electromechanical Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies in test rig and simulation system development while contributing to the ongoing success of our projects and growth initiatives.

The Electromechanical Systems Engineer (Test Rigs & Simulation) will be a highly technical engineer with a proven track record of disciplined project delivery. This role requires an individual who can successfully drive projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The successful candidate will bring a strong blend of electrical and software expertise, playing a pivotal role in the development and optimisation of test rigs, simulations, and electrical harness solutions. Additionally, as a team leader, they will oversee a mechanical engineer to ensure effective collaboration and integration of mechanical components within the test rigs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership & Design
    • Develop and construct custom test rigs and prototypes, integrating electrical requirements.
    • Oversee the work of a mechanical engineer, ensuring alignment with overall test rig design and functionality.
    • Conduct electrical system simulations using tools such as SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink to optimise designs.
    • Perform HV system simulation and design calculations to enhance electrical performance.
  • Software Development
    • Design and implement software solutions for embedded systems, control systems, and user interfaces using C#, C++, and .NET.
    • Integrate software components into overall product designs for test and measurement systems.
  • Testing & Compliance
    • Conduct electrical testing of test rigs, ensuring they meet project specifications and performance criteria.
    • Develop test protocols and implement procedures for evaluating electrical performance.
    • Plan and oversee Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing, ensuring compliance with FCC, CE, IEC standards.
    • Identify and mitigate electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues, providing design solutions for compliance.
    • Manage the CE/UKCA product approval process, collaborating with external testing laboratories for regulatory certification.
    • Prepare and maintain compliance documentation required for certification and regulatory approvals.
  • Project Management & Leadership
    • Lead multiple projects with a focus on disciplined execution, accountability, and efficiency.
    • Develop and manage detailed project plans, defining scope, objectives, resources, and timelines.
    • Ensure rigorous risk management, identifying potential issues early and implementing proactive mitigation strategies.
    • Monitor project performance against key milestones, budgets, and quality benchmarks.
    • Drive a structured problem-solving approach, ensuring issues are resolved effectively without impacting deadlines.
    • Implement and maintain best practices in project governance, ensuring high levels of documentation and reporting.
    • Serve as the primary liaison between engineering, operations, and senior management to ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Provide hands-on technical leadership, ensuring high engineering standards and rigorous testing methodologies.
    • Lead the test rig development process, ensuring seamless integration of electrical and mechanical components.
    • Mentor and develop engineering team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and engineering discipline.
    • Promote a culture of structured problem-solving, accountability, and ownership within the team.
    • Facilitate and drive cross-functional design reviews, ensuring alignment on project objectives.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • HNC or higher in Software Development (preferred).
  • Project Management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP) is highly desirable.

Technical Experience (Required)

  • Proven track record of disciplined project delivery, ensuring projects meet scope, budget, and timeline constraints.
  • Strong electrical design experience, particularly in test rigs and prototype development.
  • Software development skills in C#, C++, .NET for embedded and control systems.
  • Experience in electrical simulation tools such as SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience with high-voltage system simulation and design calculations.
  • Familiarity with EMC testing and regulatory standards (FCC, CE, IEC).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing best practices (DFA, DFM).
  • Strong analytical mindset with a data-driven approach to problem-solving.
