As part of the DORIS Group, we support offshore and onshore energy operations across the UK, delivering safe, reliable and efficient asset management and operational support services.
We are seeking experienced and safety-focused Operations Technicians / Control Room Operators to support a major UK gas transportation asset at the Bacton Terminal in Norfolk on a 3-year fixed term basis. Working as part of a shift team, this role combines Control Room Operations and field-based operational activities, ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of gas processing facilities and associated remote assets. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining plant availability, responding to operational issues, managing abnormal and emergency situations, and contributing to the prevention and mitigation of Major Accident Hazards (MAHs). The role requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork and operational excellence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operating Terminal process and utility systems to maximise production and availability
- Monitoring and managing remote operational locations associated with the Terminal
- Responding to alarms and abnormal operating conditions, taking timely corrective action and escalating where appropriate
- Maintaining comprehensive operational logs and ensuring effective shift handovers
- Supporting monitoring, preventative maintenance and first-line fault rectification activities
- Working within Control of Work and Safe Systems of Work processes, including Permit-to-Work systems and perform isolations
- Supporting safe start-up, shutdown and emergency operation of plant and equipment
- Monitoring environmental performance and ensuring compliance with permits and procedures
- Supporting the management of change process by identifying and reporting plant modifications and operational changes
- Maintaining and protecting Safety and Environmentally Critical Elements (SECEs)
- Ensure compliance with HSE, COMAH and Safety Case requirements.
- Participating in emergency response activities as defined within Company procedures
- Working collaboratively with operations, maintenance, engineering teams and contractors to optimise plant performance and safety.
Essential Skills, Experience and qualities we are looking for:
- Demonstrable experience in Control Room Operations and/or field-based operational activities.
- Experience working within a safety-critical process industry environment.
- Strong understanding of operational safety, permit-to-work systems and risk management.
- Recognised operations apprenticeship or training scheme in an operations or engineering discipline.
- Excellent communication, teamwork and IT skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Advantageous, but not Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 in Hydrocarbon Processing
- Experience within the oil and gas industry.
- Experience of gas transmission / pipeline environment and associated utility systems.
- Knowledge of Safety Cases, Major Accident Hazards and Safety Critical Elements.
