Your role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Edwards team and Product Company Eastbourne. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you will design, develop and support the product design for drives, gauges and/or control devices for the Eastbourne Product Company to meet the business needs of Atlas Copco Vacuum Technique Divisions. You will be involved in all stages of the product development lifecycle from requirements capturing to release validation and approval.

You will:

  • Maintain awareness of product roadmaps and priorities in the Vacuum Technique Division.
  • Apply specialist mechanical engineering expertise to develop innovative product design solutions that add value to the Atlas Copco portfolio.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across multiple disciplines to support the delivery of fully integrated solutions.
  • Actively identify opportunities to improve team effectiveness.
  • Provide mentoring and technical leadership within specific technology areas, while taking responsibility for ongoing personal learning and development.
  • Create rapid prototypes to test and validate design assumptions.
  • Conduct cross‑checks of 3D CAD data and drawings.
  • Work with technical colleagues to ensure compliance with EMC, RFI, IP ratings, thermal requirements, and all other relevant design parameters.
  • Stay up to date with evolving manufacturing techniques and adopt new methods where appropriate to reduce cost, shorten time‑to‑market, and enhance product quality, repeatability, and reliability.
  • Deliver internal and external customer support for both new and existing projects, including investigation and diagnosis of product defects.
  • Ensure effective Product Lifecycle Management from concept through to production in alignment with company standards.

To succeed, you will need:

  • Recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Significant experience in developing and supporting the mechanical design aspects of customer-deliverable electronics-based products.
  • Strong understanding of product development processes.
  • Must be a good communicator and have excellent fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to make decisions based on a knowledge of the business and an understanding of the business impact.
  • Some experience working in a global engineering environment and working with international teams to deliver electronics and product solutions.
  • Some experience working in a multi-disciplinary design environment.
  • Experience working in a regulated, compliance-driven industry.

Job location

On‑Site. This role requires you to work on‑site at our office in Eastbourne, United Kingdom (GB). You will be part of a dynamic team and enjoy the benefits of face‑to‑face collaboration. There will be some need to travel to UK & European locations, and maybe very occasionally to Asia or US locations, e.g. to other Vacuum Technique sites, key suppliers and, possibly, customers.
