Your role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Electronics Engineer to join the Edwards team based at Product Company Eastbourne. As a Lead Electronics Engineer, your mission is to lead and provide direction to a small team to deliver electronics platforms for new pump and related products within the Vacuum Technique business area, as well as maintaining existing designs. You will be involved in all stages of the electronics engineering lifecycle from requirements capturing to release validation and approval. You will report to the NPI Manager.
In this role, you will:
- Maintain awareness of product roadmaps and priorities within the Vacuum Technique Division, as well as relevant research developments within the NTV department.
- Provide recommendations for new research areas that could be explored within the team or at other sites across the VT Division.
- Collaborate with the team to design new techniques and product concepts that enhance performance and efficiency to satisfy an increasingly demanding and competitive field of technology.
- Take a holistic approach to product development, ensuring designs not only meet performance goals but can also be manufactured reliably and to a high standard of quality.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to other members of the development team, supporting them in driving work to completion in line with stakeholder expectations.
- Promote best practice within the team and ensure alignment with established development processes.
- Adopt a leadership role when facing technical issues, utilising a variety of established problem solving techniques and structured processes to establish root causes. This includes the writing of 8D reports where appropriate.
- Collaborate with Product Management on pushing the boundaries of what new product offerings could achieve whilst guiding the discussion around what is achievable within required timeframes.
- Ensure product design is developed in such a way that it can be tested reliably both at a component and system level.
- Build strong relationships with external suppliers and third‑party subject matter experts to support adoption of the latest technology, and continuous expansion of the team's knowledge base.
- Develop close working relationships across engineering and operations teams to ensure that the products leaving the Product Company meet expectations for safety, quality and reliability.
To succeed, you will need:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of analogue, high‑speed digital, power electronics, motor technologies, motor control and vacuum systems, and experience applying these to real products.
- Experience designing for EMC compliance and awareness of design‑for‑reliability techniques.
- Experience working in electronics manufacturing and regulated, compliance‑driven industries.
- Experience working in global, multi‑disciplinary engineering teams with strong communication and decision‑making skills.
- Understanding of product development processes and some experience with project management using Waterfall and Agile (SCRUM) frameworks.

Job location
This role requires you to work on‑site at our office in Eastbourne, United Kingdom (GB). You will be part of a dynamic team and enjoy the benefits of face‑to‑face collaboration. There will be some need to travel to other Vacuum Technique sites and key suppliers as well occasional customer facing travel. The role requires close interaction with the NPI Manager, Engineering Managers and Marketing / Product Managers, as well as with peers at other Product Companies and divisional managers. Flexible working arrangements and part‑time hours will be considered.
