Your role This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, market leading company. We are seeking exceptional candidates with a BSc/PhD in Chemistry or a related discipline. We are keen to receive applications from ambitious individuals with an interest in laboratory-based analytical work into real-world applications. The successful candidate will help ensure that new products are appropriately developed and validated.

As an Analytical Chemist, your mission is to work autonomously; designing, building and operating experiments with limited support. The recruit is then expected to collect data, analyse, write-up and report results of the experiments with limited support. You will report to a Senior Technologist.

You will have an analytical and process chemistry background, preferably in gas chemistry. Understanding of analytical techniques, detection limits, cross sensitivity, etc. Expertise in FTIR, mass spectrometry, electrochemical cells would be an advantage. However, training will be provided. Knowledge of interpreting GC-MS and LC-MS data would be desirable.

Ability to work with minimal supervision in a pressured environment, either on a customer’s site or on our Clevedon site. Operate within an industrial lab environment, conduct safety reviews prior to experiment build and operate in a safe and considerate manner. Understanding of safe gas plumbing using Swagelok or similar compression fittings, valves, mass flow controllers, sampling pumps, etc.

Analysing and interpreting data and presenting work in a clear and concise way in internal or external meetings and conferences. Knowledge and understanding of QA systems in an analytical lab setting would be beneficial experience. Knowledge of advanced semiconductor wafer fabrication processes. Awareness of persistent environmental pollutants is desirable.

  • Degree or PhD in Chemistry or related field
  • The candidate will ideally have a minimum of 1 - 3 years in analytical lab, gas chemistry lab or related field. Graduates with suitable industrial placement experience will be considered.
  • Proven ability to work with limited support to a defined timescale.
  • Working within an industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of the combustion / incineration.
