Responsibilities include leading, empowering and motivating multiple teams of sustaining engineers with a strong electrical bias. The team is accountable for safe, compliant and timely engineering support across the product lifecycle, from issue triage and root-cause investigation through design change, validation and release, including support to customer commissioning, field trials and in-service reliability improvements.
The role works closely with manufacturing, quality, service, supply chain, project management and customer stakeholders to ensure robust product performance, controlled change, and continuous improvement to specification, cost and schedule.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead, guide and motivate a team of ~6 electrical engineers by setting clear goals and SMART objectives, completing development plans, and providing regular coaching, mentoring and 1:1s.
- Build capability across electrical disciplines, including support for professional registration, to create a high-performing and continuously improving engineering function.
- Advocate and lead the adoption of best practice electrical engineering to improve the delivery of the engineering function to time, cost, quality and specification.
- Ensure the appropriate level of effective technical governance is in place for safety, compliance, quality and reliability.
- Input into and distribute work packages, guiding the project toward successful completion and volume production.
- Own technical governance for sustaining changes, assuring that safe and compliant design decisions are made through appropriate technical reviews and approvals.
- Provide leadership and direction for electrical problem solving, including failure investigation, root cause analysis, containment actions, and verification of corrective/preventive actions to improve reliability and serviceability.
- Ensure sustaining deliverables meet stakeholder requirements from system level down to sub-system/component level, with clear validation and verification plans.
Qualifications:
- Degree: Bachelors (essential), Masters (desirable), or demonstrable equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer or working towards (desirable).
- Significant level of experience of the practical application of best-practice product design, development and electrical engineering in a relatable engineering industry (essential).
- Proven experience of line management responsibility, including performance management, coaching, and development of electrical engineers (essential).
- Experience of owning and supporting personal development plans, skills development, mentoring, and career progression for engineers across different experience levels (essential).
- Experience of project coordination, project governance, methods, and management of teams (essential).
- Experience balancing people leadership with technical authority, ensuring delivery, quality, compliance, and team wellbeing are maintained (essential).
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of best-practice engineering (essential).
- Understands key technical deliverables and requirements and can report concisely to engineers, project managers, and the wider project team (essential).
