The position of Technical Assistant is both a factory and office-based role, working within an established team. The purpose of this role is to ensure the highest level of technical compliance is adhered to, across the business, through factory processes and due diligence procedures, as demanded by the Company, its customers, and associated accreditations; assisted by the technical department, management, and wider team.
THE ROLE: Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide technical support to suppliers, customers, and the site production and commercial teams.
- Manage customer complaints and non-conformances through instigating root cause, ensuring suitable corrective and preventative actions and communication to customers, internally and externally.
- Conduct and document traceability tests, as required.
- Maintain and update accurate product and raw material technical specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Assist with maintaining the quality management system and regulatory bodies.
- Support site audits.
- Conduct internal audits against site and industry standards, raising non-compliance internally, as required.
- Complete internal training in procedures for food safety, hygiene, and compliance.
- Deputising, when required, for the Technical Manager.
The above list is by no means exhaustive; there will be an expectation to conduct tasks on a daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc basis, as required.
HOURS OF WORK: Usually Monday to Friday, based on a 40-hour week. Bank Holidays are a normal working day, on a rota basis, due to the nature of the business. A day in lieu will be given for working bank holidays.
THE CANDIDATE: Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a meat processing or food manufacturing environment. Working within quality, technical, or production management systems. Ability to work autonomously, without direct supervision. Ability to provide supervision, conduct competency assessments, and deliver training, when required. Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures. Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members. Practical knowledge and experience of BRC standards, allergen and hygiene management.
