We have a current opening for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist / Senior Specialist (depending on experience). This role is office based in Newbury, West Berkshire.

How you will make an impact:

  • Providing expert guidance and operational support, together with associated administrative responsibilities, for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) across Edwards Lifesciences entities in the UK, Nordics and Canada.
  • Driving EHS regulatory compliance, injury prevention, risk management, and adherence to global standards across low-risk office environments and medium-risk field environments.
  • Leading and administering the local ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management System.
  • Supporting successful recertifications as part of the broader regional approach.
  • Contributing to sustainability-related business needs by supporting customer requirements and tenders in partnership with internal stakeholders.
  • Regular on-site presence in the country of residence to effectively support operations, build trusted partnerships, and respond to EHS risks in real time.

Environment, Health & Safety (EHS):

  • Ensure EHS regulatory compliance with country applicable legislations.
  • Identify EHS impact/hazards, conduct risk assessments, review and improve control measures, and lead management of specific risks.
  • Update risk matrices and support emergency preparedness.
  • Conduct EHS onboarding for employees and contractors and deliver EHS training to individuals and groups.
  • Manage and administer critical radiation protection equipment.
  • Oversee the dosimetry program, including administration of dosimeters and monitoring exposure readings.
  • Report and respond to incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Support employee initiatives linked to EHS.
  • Develop a strong understanding of business operations to ensure practical, value-added EHS solutions.
  • Serve as EHS advisor to Country Leadership.
  • Engage with external EHS stakeholders, including consultants, authorities and auditors.
  • Fulfil reporting requirements around packaging waste, batteries, and WEEE.

Environmental Management System (EMS) – ISO14001:

  • Lead and run the local ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management System.
  • Build strong partnership with relevant local stakeholders and regularly communicate to all employees.
  • Ensure continuous improvement and success in internal and external audits.
  • Contribute to the regional EMS with its multi-site certification approach.

Sustainability / ESG and Tender Support:

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to understand current and upcoming customer requirements around sustainability.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders in answering those requests, especially related to tenders.

  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, ISO 14001, and risk management principles.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication, documentation, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to influence across functions and organizational levels without direct authority.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, compliance, and quality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related systems.
  • Ability to develop practical, business-relevant EHS solutions.
  • Ability to train, coach, and support employees and contractors.
  • Strong administrative skills, including accurate recordkeeping and document control.
  • Professional proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake occasional business travel abroad.

What else we look for:

  • Knowledge of Life Science, the NHS or Medical Devices would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Experience with radiation risk would be an advantage.
  • A strong willingness to learn.
  • Passion for EHS and sustainability, with the ability to work with autonomy and drive EHS initiatives.
