About the Company
A long-established and innovative engineering manufacturer is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its specialist division responsible for designing and producing high-quality vehicle-mounted cranes and lifting platforms. Supplying major UK and international clients, the company is known for delivering bespoke solutions, maintaining high engineering standards, and fostering a supportive team culture. This is a permanent on-site role based at the company’s factory and offices in Chesterfield.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support a wide variety of specialist design projects within the vehicle-mounted lifting equipment division, as well as other bespoke engineering work when required. You will work closely with customers, the production team, and the wider design department to deliver safe, compliant, and innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce creative and practical design solutions to meet customer requirements
- Develop 3D models and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant legislation and British Standards
- Liaise directly with clients throughout the design process
- Prepare full costings and bills of materials
- Support production by resolving design and manufacturing issues
- Create system layouts, module assemblies, and technical documentation
- Produce operation and service manuals
Candidate Requirements:
- Formal Mechanical Engineering qualification
- Strong 3D CAD experience (preferably Autodesk Inventor)
- Knowledge of machinery and fabrication design
- Basic understanding of electrical control circuit design (advantageous)
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office
- Experience supporting projects with documentation and technical information
- Strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills
- Willingness to learn, develop and adapt
- Ability to meet deadlines and work flexibly when needed
- Full UK driving licence
