Edwards Employment Solutions are looking for a Technical Planner/Scheduler to take control of engineer deployment – balancing planned service visits with urgent jobs, and optimising routes to get the most from every working day.
As a Technical Planner/Scheduler, you’ll play a key role in keeping the business moving by ensuring engineers are effectively scheduled and resourced for service visits, calibrations, installations, and urgent breakdowns across the UK. You’ll balance forward planning with real-time response, making sure engineers are equipped with the right information, tools, and parts while optimising travel routes to minimise downtime. Your focus will be on efficiency, communication, and customer satisfaction – ensuring service standards are met and exceeded.
What you’ll do:
- Plan, schedule, and optimise engineer diaries for both planned and reactive jobs across the UK
- React quickly to urgent breakdowns while protecting planned schedules
- Optimise travel routes using mapping and scheduling software
- Ensure engineers have correct job packs, stock, and site access details
- Confirm appointments with customers and provide timely updates
- Keep engineers informed of schedule changes and customer requirements
- Manage customer expectations when delays or reprioritisation occur
- Track utilisation, first-time fix rates, and scheduling efficiency
- Provide data to support reporting on service KPIs
- Assist in the development of improved scheduling tools and processes
What we’re looking for:
- Highly organised with strong geographical awareness
- A confident communicator, able to handle competing demands
- Proactive, adaptable, and calm under pressure
- Experienced in transport/logistics planning, fleet routing, or technical scheduling
- From a background in field service operations (utilities, engineering, HVAC, telecoms, or similar)
- IT literate, ideally with knowledge of scheduling software, route optimisation tools, and CRM systems
