Edward Mann are recruiting on behalf of a Law Firm based in the Southampton area – our client is looking for a Finance and BI Systems Accountant/Analyst to join their team on a 6-month contract.
This position will support the ongoing maintenance, development, and optimisation of their financial systems.
We’re looking for a candidate who has a background in finance/accounting and strong systems experience. Proficiency in SQL and Power BI is essential.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop the firm’s financial systems, including reporting tools and integrations.
- Act as a bridge between the finance function and IT, translating accounting requirements into system solutions.
- Support system upgrades, enhancements, and integrations with third-party tools.
- Develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and reports for financial data analysis.
- Create and maintain dashboards and visual reports in Power BI.
- Manage new starter setup within financial systems, including hours and income targets.
- Maintain and update fee earner records, ensuring accuracy of billing rates, targets, and other performance metrics.
- Produce and distribute monthly KPI reporting packs and dashboards.
- Create and manage ad hoc reports for internal stakeholders as required.
- Assist in the design and testing of financial workflows and controls.
- Provide first-line support for finance system issues and liaise with vendors as required.
- Train finance and wider firm users on system use and functionality.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes from a systems perspective.
- Ensure system integrity and accuracy of financial data.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a System Accountant or Finance Systems Analyst (or similar), ideally within a professional services environment
- Strong knowledge of SQL, including writing complex queries and debugging code.
- Strong proficiency in Power BI, including dashboard creation and data modelling.
- Solid accounting knowledge; qualified or part-qualified accountant (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA) preferred.
- Understanding of legal practice operations and financial compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting finance transformation or system implementation projects.
- Strong Excel skills and familiarity with data validation and reconciliation techniques.
