We are currently recruiting for a Rail Systems Engineer (Telecoms/OT) – London based on site (must have previous Rail Telecoms experience with strong OT systems, networking and cyber exposure).
Be responsible for the Telecommunications Systems for Operational Technology assets which comprises of a number of varied systems, including new technology to legacy obsolete systems. Be responsible for the main Transmission Networks using Ethernet, MPLS and SDH/SONET to the individual systems using it such as public address, Information Displays, Radio, CCTV, Emergency Points and Telephone Systems, along with providing connectivity to a variety of other departments' Systems.
Investigate and diagnose faults, failures and railway performance issues when technical support or safety related input is required and provide backup assistance to the Senior Telecommunication Systems Engineer and the Telecommunications manager when required. Provide backup assistance to the Senior Telecommunication Systems Engineer and the Telecommunications manager when engaging with the client and the maintenance and operations sectors to determine requirements.
JOB DESCRIPTION (main points but not limited to):
- Supplier proposals, conduct design reviews and provide technical input into the acceptance process for new assets.
- Work with producing specifications and requirements for improvements and replacements of Telecommunications Systems.
- OT Network infrastructure management including the performance network management monitoring software.
- Review design and assurance submissions throughout project life cycle to establish the proposed changes to assets are suitable and sufficient for safe operation, ensuring integration between maintenance stakeholders and project scope and delivery.
- Work with the Senior Telecommunication Systems Engineer to understand basic Standards.
- Comment on technical aspects of project procedures.
- Review and support continuous improvement to standard operating procedures and other company procedures as required.
- When required provide the Senior Telecommunication Systems Engineer and the wider Telecommunication Team with technical support for other communication systems.
SKILLS NEEDED:
- Degree in an appropriate discipline, or the demonstration of equivalent engineering experience.
- Member of relevant professional institution (e.g. IET) or actively working to C.Eng.
- Good computer literacy in standard office packages.
- Knowledge in the design, approval and implementation of railway Telecommunications Systems.
- Knowledge of railway Telecommunications systems, systems interfaces, testing and maintenance is desirable.
- Reasonable ability to survey, test optical transmission systems.
- Knowledge in the production of technical reports, procedures, specifications, method statements, risk assessments and drawings.
- Flexibility to meet requirements of shift workers.
- Ability to assist with the training of key staff.
- Good practical skills in general installation, wiring etc.
- Hands-on experience of Windows and Linux operating systems, along with understanding of Windows Servers, VMware and cloud infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience of LAN/MAN/WAN networks with understanding of Ethernet, MPLS, IPsec, OSPF, SSH, SDH/SONET, RADIUS AAA and Firewall Technology.
- Hands-on experience and understanding of Cyber Security in application of technologies, processes and controls to protect systems, networks, programs, devices and data.
