Reporting into the Head, you will be the lead HR professional for the organisation, with responsibility for:

  • Leading and developing a small HR team
  • Providing trusted advice to the Head, SLT and senior managers
  • Owning and embedding HR policies, procedures and best practice
  • Ensuring consistent, compliant and fair people management
  • Overseeing recruitment, safeguarding checks, compliance and workforce data
  • Managing complex employee relations matters with confidence and credibility

Importantly, there is genuine scope to review and improve how HR operates, particularly around the use of data and reporting to strengthen decision-making, as well as improving the visibility, influence and impact of HR across the school. The organisation is supportive of change and keen to ensure HR holds a clear, permanent and respected position.

Due to the nature of the role, education sector experience is essential, with HR experience sought from within schools, academies, MATs, FE or local authority education. You’ll be someone who places safeguarding at the centre of everything you do, with responsibility for maintaining the Single Central Record and ensuring related compliance is robust and consistently applied. You will enjoy holding a trusted position within the school, advising senior leaders, and developing and mentoring the HR team. Undoubtedly, you’ll have the credibility and judgement to influence at all levels and to shape an HR function that genuinely supports the wider aims of the school.
