The school is seeking a reliable, proactive, and hands-on Assistant School Caretaker to support the smooth day-to-day running, maintenance, and safety of the school sites. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to secure a long-term role within a rewarding SEN environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of school buildings and grounds across multiple sites
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs
- Completing general DIY tasks including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, and minor repairs
- Maintaining outdoor spaces including gardens, play areas, and waste storage facilities
- Reporting faults, hazards, and maintenance issues to leadership or site management
- Supporting room setups for assemblies, events, and school activities
- Assisting with site security and key holding responsibilities
- Driving school minibuses when required to transport pupils, staff, and equipment
- Carrying out routine vehicle safety checks and ensuring minibuses remain clean and roadworthy
- Supporting pupils during transport, including assisting wheelchair users and securing specialist equipment
- Ensuring safety procedures are followed at all times including seatbelt and restraint use
- Completing transport and safety compliance records
- Supporting health and safety checks in line with statutory requirements
- Assisting with fire safety checks including fire doors and emergency exit routes
- Reporting hazards, damaged equipment, or safety concerns promptly
- Maintaining safeguarding standards and promoting pupil wellbeing
- Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
What We’re Looking For
- Full UK Driving Licence (D1 licence desirable)
- Experience in caretaking, maintenance, facilities, or grounds work
- Good practical DIY and maintenance skills
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
- Reliable, flexible, and able to work across multiple school sites
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to undertake relevant training
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable:
- Experience working within a school or SEN environment
- Experience supporting children or adults with disabilities
