A specialist school in Welwyn Garden City is looking for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic Behaviour Mentor / SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with pupils who require additional support with their behaviour, emotional regulation, communication and learning.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND
- Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students
- Help pupils develop emotional regulation, confidence and independence
- Support behaviour management and individual intervention strategies
- Work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral/SEND team
- Encourage pupils to engage positively with learning and school life
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience working with children or young people
- Experience supporting SEND, SEMH, challenging behaviour, ADHD or autism is desirable
- Patient, calm and resilient with a nurturing approach
- Confident managing challenging behaviour
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Passionate about helping young people reach their potential
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
