Thank you for your interest in the position of Temporary Science Teacher at Abersychan School. This is an important role within our school as we continue to improve provision and raise standards in Science. The Science Department is developing its provision to secure strong outcomes for students in the first instance, before progressing towards excellence. The new Curriculum Leader is committed to driving the department forward and building on its strengths.
Abersychan School is an 11‑16 co‑educational comprehensive school that meets the needs of students of all abilities. We are committed to ensuring that all our young people are happy, successful and ready for life beyond school. Our expectations and standards are high. We have a highly committed and caring staff who are dedicated to ensuring every child achieves their personal best. The school currently has 710 students, 40 teachers and 43 support staff. The school serves an area of significant socio‑economic deprivation, with 31% of students eligible for free school meals and 51% living within the 20% most deprived areas of Wales.
The school’s aims are delivered through a strong pastoral system, a commitment to providing high‑quality learning experiences and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, musical and extra‑curricular opportunities. Our students are happy, hardworking and positive about their school. They are a genuine asset to our community and are exceptionally friendly. The school has been widely commended for the significant improvements made to behaviour and wellbeing, and we continue to strive for the highest standards through outstanding provision.
