Cardiff and Vale College is looking for an experienced and inspirational Deputy Head of Department to join our Engineering department.

Working closely with the Head of Department, you will play a key leadership role in driving improvements in the quality of provision, learner outcomes and the overall learner experience.

You’ll support the effective leadership and development of the department, helping to ensure our curriculum continues to meet the needs of learners, employers and the communities we serve.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced education professional who is passionate about Engineering, high-quality teaching and learning, and developing both people and provision.

What You'll Do

  • Leading improvements in teaching, learning, assessment and learner outcomes
  • Supporting curriculum planning and developing provision that responds to learner, employer and sector needs
  • Leading, developing and supporting staff to achieve high standards of performance
  • Monitoring departmental performance and implementing quality improvement plans
  • Supporting effective resource, timetable and budget management
  • Building strong relationships with employers, schools and other external partners to support the continued development of Engineering provision

The role also includes a teaching commitment, with hours determined by the Head of Department.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced and collaborative leader with a strong understanding of Engineering education and a proven track record of delivering high-quality provision.

You’ll have excellent people-management, communication and analytical skills, with the ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities and use performance information to drive continuous improvement. You’ll be confident building effective relationships across the College and with external partners.

You’ll hold an appropriate vocational or academic qualification, such as a degree, HNC/D or equivalent qualification and/or experience, together with a recognised teaching qualification and evidence of continuous professional development. Experience of timetabling and curriculum planning would be advantageous.
