An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Apprentice English Tutor at our City Centre Campus on Dumballs Road. The Junior Apprentice Programme is aimed at key stage 4 learners who are disengaged in mainstream learning for various reasons. Our learners come from 22 Schools across the Cardiff & Vale area and study with us for two years. The programme is vocational based giving learners the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and qualifications in their chosen pathway. We run 5 pathways as part of the programme – Hair & Beauty, Catering & Hospitality, Multi Trades (Plumbing, Construction and Automotive), Health & Social Care and Digital Creative

In particular, the post holder will be responsible for:

  • Teaching GCSE English to the year 10 and year 11 Junior Apprentice 14 – 16 cohort. Course tutor responsibilities of at least one JA group.
  • Undertaking of all pedagogic work such as lesson preparation, classroom teaching, tutorial work and marking.
  • Conducting student assessments in order to place students, monitor progress and identify learning support needs and exam access arrangements (EAA).
  • Providing appropriate student support in order to meet both the academic and welfare needs of learners and ensuring that all relevant information is recorded on the appropriate College systems.
  • Good working knowledge of GCSE English qualifications, as per WJEC criteria for delivery to year 10 and year 11 learners.

You will be educated to degree level with a recognized teaching qualification. You will also have knowledge of teaching WJEC English qualifications specifically the new curriculum in Wales. Knowledge and experience of teaching Junior Apprentices in a classroom environment would be advantageous. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable but not essential for this role.
