A specialist SEN school in Swinton is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Speech & Language Teaching Assistant (SaLT TA) to support non-verbal pupils and work closely with on-site Speech and Language Therapists. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity within a structured and supportive SEN environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for non-verbal children.
  • Work alongside Speech & Language Therapists (SaLT) delivering targeted communication interventions.
  • Support pupils using PECS, Now & Next boards, visual timetables and AAC strategies.
  • Encourage development of verbal communication, interaction and engagement.
  • Support children with Autism (ASD) and Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN).
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching and therapy staff.
  • Promote a calm, structured and communication-focused learning environment.

Experience

  • Supporting children with SLCN, ASD or complex needs.
  • Knowledge or experience of PECS, Now & Next boards and visual communication systems.
  • Experience working with non-verbal pupils.
  • Calm, patient and nurturing approach.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary SEN team.
  • Previous SEN school or SEN provision experience desirable.
  • DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Qualifications

  • Experience and/or qualification in supporting children with SLCN, ASD or complex needs preferred.

Full-time | Monday-Friday | 8:30am-3:30pm | £105 per day
