Role Overview

1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism Support (Year 1) Full-time | Monday-Friday | 8:30am-3:30pm | Start date: 19th January

We are working with a welcoming and supportive primary school who are looking for a kind, patient and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis. This role will involve providing 1:1 support for a child with autism who finds the mainstream classroom environment challenging at times. A large part of your day will be spent working with the child outside of the classroom in a calm breakout space, helping them to regulate, engage with learning and feel safe, understood and supported. There may also be opportunities during the day to support two Year 3 pupils, working closely with the class teacher and wider support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support for a child with autism
  • Supporting learning and emotional regulation in a breakout space
  • Helping the child develop confidence, communication and independence
  • Using a calm, nurturing and flexible approach throughout the day
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCO and support staff
  • Supporting additional pupils when required

  • Has experience supporting children with autism or additional needs (school or care-based experience welcome)
  • Is patient, compassionate and resilient
  • Can build strong, trusting relationships with children
  • Understands that progress looks different for every child
  • Is happy working both 1:1 and in small group settings
