The Educational Institute of Scotland is Scotland’s largest and most influential trade union and professional association for teachers and lecturers, with almost 65,000 members working in all education sectors and at all career stages. With such a large and diverse membership, and as an organisation that is actively engaged across many areas of Scottish Education, we rely on high quality administrative support.

We are currently seeking a full time Administrative Assistant to join our Organisation Department. The post will involve a wide range of duties, including work in connection with the organising and recruitment activities of the Institute, preparations for the Annual General Meeting, administrative arrangements in relation to the nomination and award of Fellowships (FEIS), and the provision of administrative support to the department’s Assistant General Secretary and National Officer.

The candidate should have significant experience of office administration and event organisation. The role also requires a high level of knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work under pressure and on your own initiative is also necessary.

This is a full-time position based in our headquarters in Moray Place, Edinburgh. However, the Institute has a Flexible Working Patterns policy offering all members of staff a high degree of flexibility over the time and location at which work is carried out, subject to the overall requirements of the EIS and its members.

Benefits include a final salary superannuation scheme and 23 days (rising to 32) annual leave plus 14 days public holidays.
