We are seeking an experienced and hands‑on Site Manager to join a supportive secondary school in Washington.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished facilities professional to take operational responsibility for a busy school site and lead the effective delivery of premises and facilities services.

The successful Site Manager will ensure the school premises remain safe, secure, compliant, well‑maintained, and fit for purpose.

This is not solely a supervisory position; the role requires someone comfortable managing facilities operations while personally undertaking practical site duties alongside the wider team.

As Site Manager, you will coordinate facilities staff and contractors while overseeing compliance, maintenance, security, housekeeping, cleaning, porterage, and grounds‑related activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take day‑to‑day responsibility for operational site and facilities management.
  • Manage, coordinate, and work alongside the school's facilities team and external contractors.
  • Oversee statutory compliance checks covering areas including fire, water quality, gas, electrical safety, and asbestos.
  • Maintain accurate compliance, maintenance, inspection, and premises records.
  • Identify and elevate premises risks, defects, and compliance concerns.
  • Manage site security, keyholding, alarms, opening and lock‑up arrangements, and emergency call‑outs.
  • Personally undertake and coordinate routine maintenance, minor repairs, and site improvements.
  • Oversee cleaning, porterage, housekeeping, waste management, and grounds‑related activities.
  • Manage day‑to‑day facilities rotas, task allocation, operational priorities, and standards of work.
  • Support facilities budgets, purchasing, utilities monitoring, contractors, school events, and lettings.
  • Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, and contractor control procedures are followed at all times.
  • The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Proven experience managing complex facilities, including internal teams and external contractors.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple facilities functions.
  • A working knowledge of building technology and planned preventative maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety, premises compliance, cleaning, security, and business continuity.
  • Experience of contract management and working with specialist contractors.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • A practical, hands‑on approach to facilities management and the ability to undertake physical site duties.
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Relevant facilities management, health and safety, or trade qualifications – desirable.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.

This Site Manager role would suit an experienced facilities professional who can combine operational leadership with practical delivery.

A successful Site Manager will lead by example, maintain high standards across the site, and play a central role in ensuring the school remains safe, compliant, and fully operational.
