We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SEND Teacher to provide holiday relief cover for a young person with complex special educational needs, supported through a bespoke 1:1 community education plan in Northumberland. This role involves covering the holiday periods of an appointed SEND Teacher who works with the young person on a year-round basis. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring continuity, routine, and consistency during these periods. This opportunity is well suited to a qualified SEND teacher who is confident supporting complex SEND including non-verbal communication and is seeking flexible, short-term work.
Role
- Deliver a personalised 1:1 education programme tailored to the young person’s individual needs
- Support learning, communication, and engagement during holiday periods
- Deliver appropriate activities in line with the young person’s interests, communication methods, and regulation needs
- Work closely with the family and relevant professionals to maintain established routines
- Provide short blocks of cover to ensure a smooth transition between teaching periods
Hours
- Typically 9:00am – 3:00pm
- Working no more than 3.5–4 consecutive days at a time
- Hours and timings may vary depending on the needs of the young person and the activities planned
The Ideal Candidate Will
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS / QTLS) or an equivalent teaching qualification
- Have experience working with children or young people with complex SEND
- Demonstrate strong experience supporting non-verbal learners
- Have Makaton experience as a minimum requirement
- Hold a British Sign Language (BSL) qualification (highly desirable)
- Be calm, flexible, and adaptable in their approach
- Be confident delivering education outside of a traditional classroom environment
