We are seeking dedicated and adaptable tutors to provide high-quality, personalised tuition across South Tyneside. This is a rewarding opportunity for experienced tutors who are passionate about supporting learners with a range of needs, helping them re-engage with education and achieve their full potential. As a Tutor, you will deliver one-to-one sessions to students aged 5 to 25, supporting both their academic progress and personal development. The successful Tutor will work with learners with SEND, SEMH needs, and those who are permanently excluded (PEx), providing a holistic approach to education and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored one-to-one sessions as a Tutor across core subjects (English, Maths, and Science).
- Support learners working towards GCSE and/or Functional Skills qualifications.
- Provide both academic and pastoral support, helping students build confidence and set future goals.
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of lower ability learners and those with additional needs.
- Support students with SEND, SEMH, and PEx backgrounds through a patient and structured approach.
- Travel between different settings (homes, libraries, community centres) to deliver sessions.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to support ongoing development.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.
Working Hours
- Flexible hours
- Typically between 09:00 – 15:00 (school hours)
- Possibility of evening or weekend work depending on student and family needs
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- QTS, QTLS, or a Level 3 Education and Training qualification – essential.
- Experience working as a Tutor or supporting learners in a one-to-one capacity.
- Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, or PEx backgrounds.
- Strong subject knowledge in English, Maths, and/or Science up to GCSE/Functional Skills level.
- A flexible and adaptable approach to working hours and locations.
- The ability to travel across South Tyneside – essential.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.
