We are seeking two experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistants to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Gateshead. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with individual pupils, providing consistent support to help them access learning, develop confidence, and thrive in a mainstream classroom environment. Both roles will involve working 1:1 with pupils who have SEND and SEMH needs, requiring patience, resilience, and a strong understanding of behaviour and emotional support strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support as a Teaching Assistant for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs.
- Support pupils in accessing learning activities across the primary curriculum.
- Implement effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support engagement and emotional wellbeing.
- Work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to deliver tailored support plans.
- Adapt resources and activities to meet individual learning needs.
- Support pupils in developing social skills, independence, and confidence.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant – essential.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND and SEMH needs – essential.

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to adapt quickly to individual pupil needs.
- A Teaching Assistant qualification – highly desirable.
