We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school in Durham. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating an inclusive, nurturing, and engaging learning environment tailored to meet the individual needs of pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Support teaching and learning by working with individual pupils and small groups with SEND.
- Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated and engaging learning activities tailored to pupils’ individual needs.
- Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where all pupils can thrive.
- Support pupils’ communication, emotional regulation, social development, and independence.
- Adapt resources and learning activities to meet a range of learning needs and abilities.
- Promote positive behaviour and support the implementation of behaviour management strategies.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, parents, and external agencies to provide holistic support for pupils.
- Observe, monitor, and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.
- A minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification – essential.
- Experience working with pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
- A strong understanding of SEND strategies and inclusive learning practices.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and teamwork skills.
- A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach to supporting children and young people.
