We are seeking a passionate, resilient, and dedicated English Teacher to join a welcoming Alternative Provision in Sunderland from September 2026. As an English Teacher, you will deliver engaging and differentiated lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, adapting your teaching to meet the individual needs of students and helping them make meaningful academic and personal progress. This role will commence in September 2026 and continue until the Christmas break, offering an excellent opportunity to join a committed team dedicated to transforming the educational experiences of young people.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging, creative, and differentiated English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet the individual learning, behavioural, and emotional needs of students.
- Inspire students to develop their reading, writing, speaking, and communication skills.
- Assess, monitor, and track student progress, using assessment effectively to inform planning and support attainment.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment where students feel supported to succeed.
- Promote positive behaviour using effective behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches.
- Build positive relationships with students to support engagement, confidence, and personal development.
- Work collaboratively with pastoral staff, teaching assistants, parents, carers, and external agencies to provide holistic support.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.
- UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
- Experience teaching the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 English curriculum – essential.
- Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
- The ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people who may present with additional behavioural or emotional needs.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- A resilient, patient, and adaptable approach to teaching.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Previous experience working within an Alternative Provision, PRU, or specialist educational setting.
- Experience supporting students with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, restorative approaches, or inclusive behaviour strategies.
- Experience preparing students for GCSE English Language and English Literature examinations.
- A passion for supporting vulnerable learners to achieve positive outcomes.
