We are seeking a resilient and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Northumberland. This is an excellent opportunity for a committed practitioner who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to an individual pupil, helping them access education, regulate their behaviour, and engage positively with learning. The successful candidate will have experience working with pupils who present challenging behaviour and will be confident in using effective behaviour management strategies to build positive relationships and support progress.
Key Responsibilities- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with special educational needs and additional behavioural needs.
- Support the pupil in accessing learning activities and achieving individual targets.
- Build a positive and trusting relationship to encourage engagement, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
- Implement behaviour management strategies consistently and effectively.
- Support the pupil with emotional regulation and help them develop positive coping mechanisms.
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to support.
- Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress, behaviour, and engagement.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment.
- Assist with adapting learning activities and resources to meet the pupil's individual needs.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND and behavioural needs.
- Experience supporting pupils who present challenging behaviour.
- Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.
- An understanding of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches would be advantageous.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
