Role Overview: Teacher of English (0.6/0.7 FTE) – Lead of English & Literacy, South Devon UTC, Permanent Part‑Time.
Responsibilities:
- Shape confident communicators and employable young people.

Key Accountabilities:
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of teaching your subject(s) and wider curriculum/pastoral developments.
- Plan tutorials, activities, lessons, and sequences to meet students’ individual learning needs.
- Use appropriate strategies and follow UTC policies for tutoring, teaching, behaviour management and classroom management.
- Promote the health, safety, economic wellbeing and achievement of your students, involving parents and other agencies.
- Assess, monitor and record the progress of students and give clear and constructive feedback.
- Set well‑grounded expectations for students using information about prior knowledge and attainment, aiming for progress at or above national level.
- Take responsibility for your own professional development and use outcomes to improve your teaching.
- Make an active contribution to the policies, aspirations and plans of your year group, curriculum team and the UTC.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Essential – Degree and Qualified Teacher Status.
- Essential – Successful experience of teaching this subject in a placement or a previous UTC.
- Essential – Ability to teach GCSE and, where relevant, A Level.
- Essential – Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and colleagues.
- Essential – Ability to use assessment for learning and data to improve student performance.
- Essential – High level ICT skills and inspirational practice that engages students.
