This is an opportunity for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a busy and inclusive primary school in Derby city centre, with a strong focus on supporting pupils with additional needs and promoting inclusion across the school. The school prides itself on creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for all pupils, with small-group support and targeted interventions in place to help children thrive academically and socially. Pupils benefit from well-resourced classrooms, dedicated SEND spaces, and access to sensory and outdoor learning areas that are used to support practical and personalised learning.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be encouraged to work collaboratively with teachers and parents to ensure the best outcomes for pupils. Professional development is provided to enhance skills in order to effectively support learners with SEND.
Requirements and Expectations
- Experience supporting pupils with SEN in a primary school setting - preferred
- Ability to work 1:1 or in small groups to deliver targeted interventions and support learning across the curriculum
- Good understanding of strategies to support pupils with a range of SEND, including social, emotional, and learning needs
- Strong communication skills to liaise with teachers, parents, and external professionals
- Patience, empathy, and a positive approach to supporting pupils with SEN
- Ability to adapt activities and resources to meet individual learning needs
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of behaviour, safety, and inclusion
