You may already be an experienced lecturer, or you could be an electrician considering teaching for the first time. Either way, we’d love to hear from you.

This is an opportunity to join our expanding Construction Team at Sunderland College, part of Education Partnership North East (EPNE), and play an important role in shaping the future of Electrical Installation.

If you’re a qualified electrician with strong practical and theoretical knowledge of Electrical Installation, we can support you in making the transition from industry into further education.

If you don’t already hold a teaching qualification, you’ll normally complete one within your first two years. The qualification is designed to fit alongside the role, with dedicated time provided during your first year to support your transition into education.

You may also be eligible for Taking Teaching Further (TTF) funding and/or the Targeted Retention Incentive, depending on the role, subject area and your individual circumstances.

What would you be teaching?

You’ll deliver Electrical Installation up to Level 3, combining classroom theory with practical, workshop-based learning.

Teaching may include areas such as:

• Electrical Scientific Principles and Technologies
• Design and Installation Practices
• Planning and Overseeing Electrical Work
• Terminations and Connections
• Inspection, Testing and Commissioning
• Fault Diagnosis and Rectification
• Health, Safety and Environmental Considerations

With typical class sizes of around 16 students, you’ll have the opportunity to provide hands‑on support and make a real difference to learners’ development.

What does the role look like?

The role is 37 hours per week, including approximately 24 hours of timetabled teaching and 13 hours for planning, assessment, curriculum development, meetings, quality assurance and student progress.

Your teaching week could include a mixture of:

• Classroom theory
• Workshop-based practical sessions
• Tutorials and Global Skills

No two days are necessarily the same, and you’ll have the opportunity to use your industry experience to make learning practical, relevant and engaging.

Whether you’ve spent years working on electrical installations, have extensive site experience or have developed specialist knowledge within the industry, your experience could help inspire and prepare the next generation of electricians.

You’ll also have the opportunity to develop strong links with employers and industry partners, helping students gain valuable experience and progress into successful careers.
