About The College
Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi-million, state of the art, new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose-built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located.
Curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND. The College has two main campuses in Ashington, and Ponteland, and as part of the college group Education Partnership Northeast, it also has a significant number of satellite delivery centres across the region.

About The Candidate
We are currently seeking a motivated and passionate Skills development coach (SDC) to join our land-based team at the Kirkley Hall Campus, Ponteland. This role is part time (2.5 days per week). In this role you will play a crucial part in supporting our students’ progress and personal development by supporting them in securing work placements and delivering sessions focused on personal growth, employability and skill enhancement. Northumberland college is part of the Education Partnership North East (EPNE) group and is dedicated to providing high-quality education and training.

About The Role
This role includes:
- Collaborating with local businesses and organisations to source high quality work placements
- Providing individualised guidance and support to students around work experience
- Facilitating work-based learning experiences, helping students to apply theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills
- Designing and delivering engaging sessions covering personal development/ employability topics such as communication skills, team-work and time management
- Monitoring student progress and performance, providing constructive feedback and communicating with programme leaders
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with industry professionals to enhance learning opportunities for students and to raise the profile of EPNE
Role Responsibilities
- Plan for group focused sessions, based either in classroom, workshops, trips or visits
- Coordinate skills assessments with students to identify and target the improvement of skills needed, appropriate for their next steps across all levels of programme
- Develop and sustain effective relationships with employers to secure high quality, relevant, external work experience and industry placements for eligible learners
- Ensure effective health and safety and monitoring of all students undertaking work experience including the completion of risk assessments
- Participate and actively contribute to curriculum team and cross college professional development
- Support students individually with the coordination of academic or skills focused intervention to ensure pace of progress is appropriate for the level and expectations of the programme
Qualifications
- GCSE maths grade 4 or above
- GCSE English grade 4 or above
- Level 3 qualification in a related subject

- Experience of working with young people and adults
- Excellent communication and presentation skills both written and verbal and to a wide range of audiences
- Suitability to work with children
- Excellent organisational skills
