We are looking for a proactive and skilled Workshop Supervisor who is ready to be a changemaker within our land-based engineering provision. You will bring strong technical expertise and an initiative to improve processes, enhance the workshop environment, and ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will work collaboratively with all staff and departments to build positive relationships with learners, supporting them to develop confidence and practical competence. You will be highly organised, adaptable, and solution-focused, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to continuous improvement. Above all, you will be passionate about creating a safe, engaging, and industry-relevant learning environment that inspires the next generation of land-based engineers.
This is a hands-on and rewarding role at the heart of our land-based engineering provision, where you will take responsibility for the effective running of the workshop and play a key part in supporting high-quality teaching and learning. You will ensure that all machinery, vehicles, and equipment are maintained to industry standards, while creating a safe, organised, and engaging environment for both staff and students.
- Lead the effective day-to-day management of the land-based engineering workshop
- Ensure all machinery, vehicles, tools, and equipment are safe, compliant, and maintained to a high standard
- Support high-quality teaching and learning through the preparation of practical resources and environments
- Promote and maintain a strong culture of health and safety across all workshop activities
- Provide technical support and guidance to staff and students during practical sessions
Role Responsibilities:
- Maintain, service, and repair all workshop machinery such as tractors, trailers, quad bikes, chainsaws, lawnmowers, and other tools used by the farm, zoo, equine and horticulture teams, to ensure safe and reliable operation
- Support teaching staff during practical sessions by preparing resources and providing technical guidance to learners
- Monitor and enforce health and safety standards, including completing risk assessments and maintaining safe systems of work
- Keep accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and equipment usage
- Manage stock, tools, and materials, ensuring the workshop is well-organised and equipped for practical activities
- Support the development of students’ practical skills, confidence, and understanding of safe working practices
Qualifications:
- L3 or equivalent Land-based engineering qualification
- L2 English
- L2 Maths
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Experience of working in a similar engineering, farm, agriculture environment or similar
- High level understanding and awareness of specialist processes in all aspects of land-based engineering
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of safe working practices
- Excellent communication skills; written, oral and interpersonal
- Excellent organisational skills

- Experience of providing technical support for students
- Experience of completing risk assessments
- Experience of ordering materials and working within set budgets
