Taking Teaching Further & Additional Incentives

If you're making the move into further education teaching, you may be eligible for the Taking Teaching Further (TTF) programme—a funded route to help industry professionals retrain as FE teachers. In addition, for roles in high‐need subjects or regions you may also benefit from the government's targeted retention incentive (formerly "levelling‐up premium") payments, worth up to £6,000 for eligible teachers in their first five years and teaching certain shortage subjects.

Please note eligibility for both TTF and the Targeted Retention Incentive varies by role, subject area and provider, and they do not apply to every vacancy.

Key Roles And Responsibilities

  • Mathematics Lecturer: Deliver engaging and accessible lessons in Mathematics, guiding students through the curriculum at GCSE and/or A‐Level. Support learners in building strong problem‐solving skills and mathematical confidence.
  • Programme Lead: Oversee the successful delivery of Maths programmes, ensuring the highest standards in teaching, learning, and assessment. This role includes supporting staff development, coordinating delivery, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Curriculum Manager: Design and manage inclusive and innovative Maths curriculum content, tailored to meet the needs of a diverse student population, and ensure alignment with exam boards and industry needs.

Desired Qualifications And Experience

  • A strong academic background in Mathematics or a related field, with experience teaching GCSE and/or A‐Level Maths (or equivalent).
  • Relevant teaching qualifications (PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent) and a genuine enthusiasm for education.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills, especially relevant for Programme Lead and Curriculum Manager positions.
  • Ability to engage, challenge, and support students to achieve their full potential in Mathematics.
