About the College
Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi‑million, state of the art, new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose‑built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located. Curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND.
About the Role
This is a unique opportunity to lead the way in building real‑world opportunities for young people at a crucial stage in their development. You’ll be at the forefront of a growing initiative that helps 16–18‑year‑olds gain valuable insight into the workplace, boosting their confidence, skills and future prospects. The specific area of focus will be health, education and sport, so a background in, or understanding of, one of these sectors would be of benefit but is not essential.
In this role, you’ll develop partnerships with employers across a range of industries, helping them understand the value of supporting work experience. You’ll coordinate placements, build employer engagement strategies and ensure every opportunity is safe, supportive and impactful. You’ll also collaborate with schools, colleges and local networks to match students with opportunities that align with their interests and ambitions. From managing logistics to shaping new models of engagement, your work will directly influence the career journeys of hundreds of young people.
Role Responsibilities
- Plan and create opportunities for students to practice and develop their technical and employability skills (including English, maths and digital skills) as set out with the curriculum plan, allowing for positive progression.
- Plan an innovative approach in the creation of individual and group‑led activities across the curriculum to ensure progress in all elements of their programme (English & maths, main aim, work placement).
- Ensure all students are work‑ready and have the workplace skills to match their career aspirations.
- Plan, track and monitor work placements for all eligible students within the team.
- Ensure that all students undertake significant and meaningful employer activity including skills competitions, employer events, guest speakers and industry‑defined projects, work experience and placements.
Qualifications
- GCSE grades 4/C in English Language and mathematics.
- ‘A Level Three’ in a relevant technical, vocational or academic subject.
- Experience of working with young people and adults in group situations.
- Experience of working as part of a team.
- Working with individuals from a wide range of educational backgrounds.
- Experience of working within a relevant technical area.
